Okay, seriously, if you haven't been watching iZombie, you are missing out on some serious brain-munching, crime-solving fun! And if you have been, then you know that Season 1 Episode 10, aptly titled "Mr. Berserk," was an absolute rollercoaster. I mean, we're talking about a zombie detective who solves murders by eating brains, and somehow, it just works. It's like the quirky cousin of all those gritty crime dramas, but with way more sass and way less brooding.
This episode really cranked things up a notch. We saw our favorite zombie, Liv Moore (played by the endlessly cool Rose McIver), dive headfirst into the mind of a truly, shall we say, intense individual. Think of it like trying to understand someone who's just eaten a whole bag of caffeinated jellybeans while simultaneously trying to juggle chainsaws. It's a lot to process, and Liv, as usual, does it with a remarkable amount of style, even if she’s occasionally channeling some serious rage.
The whole premise of iZombie is that when Liv eats the brain of a victim, she temporarily takes on some of their personality traits and memories. It's the ultimate "walk a mile in their shoes," but with way more… well, brains. In "Mr. Berserk," she’s dealing with a dude who's definitely not your average Joe. He’s got some serious anger issues, and let me tell you, Liv’s getting a front-row seat to the show.
We’re talking about a level of fury that could probably power a small city. Liv's trying to figure out who did this to him, and in the process, she’s accidentally becoming this walking bundle of pure, unadulterated rage. It’s hilarious, terrifying, and incredibly compelling all at once. Imagine trying to have a calm conversation with someone who’s channeling the energy of a toddler denied a cookie, but on steroids. That’s Liv for you in this episode.
And then there’s her partner, Detective Babineaux (the ever-charming Rahul Kohli). He’s the grounded, sarcastic counterpoint to Liv’s increasingly bizarre zombie life. He’s constantly trying to keep her on the straight and narrow, or at least, the slightly less-zombie-like path. He’s the voice of reason, even when that reason involves dealing with a zombie who’s suddenly developed an urge to smash things.

The case itself in "Mr. Berserk" is a doozy. It involves a missing person, and as Liv starts to absorb the victim's brain, she gets glimpses of what happened. It's like putting together a really messed-up jigsaw puzzle where the pieces are memories and emotions. You’re trying to figure out the picture before the whole thing collapses into a pile of bloody, brain-y chaos.
What makes iZombie so great is how it balances the supernatural with the utterly human. Even though Liv is a zombie, her struggles are relatable. She’s trying to do the right thing, she’s trying to help people, and she’s dealing with her own personal issues, which, you know, include not eating the brains of innocent people. This episode really throws her for a loop because the personality she’s taking on is so extreme.
You see Liv fighting with this inner "berserk" personality. It’s like she’s got two people in her head, and one of them is really, really angry about something. It’s a fantastic performance from Rose McIver, who has to navigate these dramatic personality shifts with such skill. One minute she’s trying to be her usual empathetic self, and the next she’s ready to go full Hulk on whoever is in her path.

And the supporting cast! Oh, the supporting cast. You have Clive Babineaux, who is just the best. He’s so patient with Liv, even when she’s acting completely out of her mind. You can see him thinking, “What in the actual zombie heck is going on now?” but he always sticks by her side.
Then there’s Major Lilywhite (the ever-brooding Robert Buckley). He’s Liv’s ex, and he’s constantly getting caught up in her crazy zombie adventures. He’s trying to figure out what’s going on with her, and frankly, he’s got a lot to deal with. It’s a classic will-they-won’t-they romance, but with the added complication of one of them being undead.
And let’s not forget Peyton Charles (the fabulous Alyson Michalka). She’s Liv’s best friend and roommate, and she’s the only one who truly knows Liv’s secret. She’s the voice of reason and the much-needed dose of normal in their otherwise chaotic lives. She’s the one who’s probably thinking, “Can we just have a normal night in? Please?”

In "Mr. Berserk," the stakes are raised because Liv's own emotions are getting out of control. She’s not just experiencing the victim’s rage; it’s bleeding into her own personality. This is where the fun of iZombie really shines. It takes a serious concept, like being a zombie and struggling with your impulses, and makes it both entertaining and thought-provoking.
You find yourself rooting for Liv to get control of herself, to solve the case, and to not accidentally punch someone’s lights out. It’s a delicate balance, and the writers of iZombie nail it. They give us moments of genuine peril, moments of laugh-out-loud humor, and moments that make you feel for the characters.
The investigation in this episode is particularly clever. Liv, while channeling the rage, is also picking up on subtle clues that only someone in that heightened emotional state might notice. It’s like the anger is actually a superpower in disguise, which is a pretty cool concept, right? Imagine if your worst emotions could actually help you solve crimes. That would be something!

By the end of "Mr. Berserk," Liv manages to sort through the chaos and bring the killer to justice. But not without a few near misses and a whole lot of internal struggle. You see the toll it takes on her, and it makes you appreciate her dedication even more. She’s out there, doing the dirty work, literally eating her way to the truth.
This episode really solidified that iZombie is more than just a silly zombie show. It’s a smart, witty, and surprisingly heartfelt series that knows how to entertain. If you’re looking for a show that’s got action, humor, mystery, and a whole lot of heart (and brains!), then you absolutely need to check out iZombie, especially episodes like "Mr. Berserk." It’s the kind of show that leaves you feeling good, a little bit smarter, and definitely craving more brain-related adventures!
